About the role

A lot of our front-end work has a hard constraint attached: a school laptop on shared wifi, a clinician who will abandon anything that adds thirty seconds, a site worker in gloves on a bright screen. Performance and accessibility here are not polish items at the end, they are the specification. If you find that more interesting than the framework argument, we will get on.

What you will do

  • Build interfaces against a real performance budget, measured on the worst supported device.
  • Own accessibility to WCAG 2.2 AA, tested rather than asserted.
  • Work directly with the client’s users when we can get access to them.
  • Decide when a framework earns its weight and when it does not.

What we need from you

  • Deep TypeScript and CSS. Genuine CSS, not only a utility framework.
  • You have made something measurably faster and can describe how you measured it.
  • Accessibility experience with a screen reader you have actually used.
  • Comfort working without a designer holding your hand, and with one when there is one.

Useful but not required

  • Design sensibility. Several of our best front-end engineers came through design.
  • Experience with offline-tolerant or intermittently connected applications.
